It is good for Huck and Jim to have each other, they can help each other and share knowledge. Sometimes when they are feeling bad they realize that they still have a good friend right by their side. Both Huck and Jim benefit from each other and have soft spots for each other.
There is also the danger of Jim getting caught, and Huck knows that they are after him. On page 34 in chapter 6 Huck says, "I knowed dey was arter you. I see um go by heah; watched um thoo de bushes." If Jim gets caught, then they will also find out about Huck, and neither of them want that to happen. It is also viewed as crazy for a black man and a white boy to be working together in this time, where slavery is so abundant and it is still legal. People could get really mad for seeing that and things would not have turned out good.
In my opinion, this was a smart move for them to work together, because they help each other a lot and I am glad I got to read about them,
